It's recognised as an antibiotic to deal with bacteria, fungi and viruses.
When I had a wisdom tooth trying to force itself out the side of my head I would crush garlic [wait around ten mins after crushing is the common consensus] to allow the antimicrobial agent allicin[!?] to maximise its potency and would shove it over the bad tooth area and suffer in excruciating pain as it did its stuff, however it merely tamed the pain for a few days and did this on repeat for a few months until extraction which was the only real solution when an infection has got to that point.
For colds/flu when you wake up with an infected throat/tonsils gargle potassium permanganate [painless] for instant relief and healing and I'd always top it up with a crushed garlic swill [this was unpleasant] and if you've got a cold for the garlic to attack in your system will make you stink from up to ten metres [not just the 2] from the sulphur your body expels in the process.
There's also just a salt wash people have used to fight colds for 100s of years,
Boil water add a lot of salt let it cool to temp you can handle, then snort up through your nostrils and splutter it all out in the sink, it is disgusting but works.
In America they call them neti pots, you can can use a small bowl.

Goldie - very interesting - thanks for posting that. I know garlic is incredibly healthy but surely it can't be seen as an antibiotic. I eat it all the time and grow my own but it didn't do anything to help a recent tooth infection, which was cleared up by conventional antibiotics.

Did you know that Garlic is the best natural antibiotic in the world, there is no tolerance build up, it does not permanently harm the body or rewrite your DNA and the best known cure and or treatment for a ... cold of flu.
In another lifetime when working for one of the big pharma corps before they took over the world under the present day medical tyranny under cover of a cold, they investigated avenues to try and patent garlic only the law wouldn't really allow it for obvious reasons, they did get a patent for synthesised THC for example but people soon realised that THC without any of the dozens of cannabinoids in conjunction just induces terrifying psychosis without any of the positive benefits from the THC/CBD medicine that mother nature gave us, for free.

Point of the aioli is what the olive oil and the lemon does to the more pungent volatile garlic halogens. These are effectively dissolved in the former and cooked in the latter. You may find the effect highly agreeable.
